Davis-Standard Blown Film Dies

Davis-Standard 3-Layer Low Profile DieDavis-Standard manufactures a complete line of blown film die packages from small single layer dies to complete multi-layer coextrusion systems. Single layer and coextrusion blown film dies are manufactured using precision CNC machining and offer excellent gauge and property uniformity, streamlined flow passages, fast purge/changeover times, and overall and individual layer gauge control from +/- 4-5%. Low Profile Stationary Die Package Single and multi-layer die packages designed for high output rates, a low wetted surface and short residence time are used with oscillating nips.

Davis-Standard Spiral DieOscillating Dies Can be custom designed and feature low pressure, low residence time and side-feed sections for coextrusion. They also provide rapid access to interlayer seals and streamlined flow convergence. Davis-Standard supplies oscillators with several features.. PE Series Dies These versatile dies can accommodate the full range of polyethylenes, LD/LLD blends and are available in diameters ranging from 4-inches (100mm) to 20-inches (500mm). These dies can be delivered in eight weeks from the order date.

Davis-Standard Blown Film Air Rings

Davis-Standard Blown Film Air RingDavis-Standard's industry leading WesJet air ring offers superb bubble stability and a wide range of blow-up ratios and film thickness combinations. Advantages of the WesJet include dual lip configuration with single adjustment, uniform distribution to +/- 1 percent, high air volume and low pressure, an optional locking collar and a parallel-flow concept for improved bubble stabilization. The WesJet features a wide, tangential, sweep design for the air inlets and a machined van network for air velocity/volume distribution. This allows for lower air pressures and higher air volumes, increasing the cooling effectiveness by 10 to 20 percent. A Venturi is created as the lower volume secondary air stream meets the primary air stream. The negative pressure field around the bubble surface pulls outwardly on the film, allowing increased air-cooling as the air stream stabilizes the bubble. The air ring's aircraft-grade aluminum cast structure provides rigidity, close dimensional tolerance and durability.

Davis-Standard Extruders

Davis-Standard 6 inch 30:1 MAC Extruder

Davis-Standard's metric, air-cooled (MAC™) extruders are designed specifically for the blown film and cast film extrusion market. These extruders feature a unique high-performance barrel cooling system. The system incorporates one common blower for all zones and has a plenum built into the base to draw heat away from the extrusion area. The common blower pulls air in and through the extruder, eliminating discharge and air drafts around the bubble, creating a more stable bubble environment and improved film gauge uniformity. This design makes it possible to control plant air around the extruder, provides processors with controllable polymer melt temperatures and minimizes maintenance costs. The MAC is available in sizes ranging from 2-inches (50 mm) to 6-inches (165 mm), and with L/D ratios of 24:1 and 30:1.

Helical GearsThe extruder's gear reducer is engineered to provide a wide range of speed and power capabilities and is equipped with single, double or triple reduction helical gearing. Gear shafts are mounted on preloaded radial bearings to maintain gear and screw-to-barrel alignment, and splash or circulating oil lubrication systems are available. The MAC is also equipped with space saving, on-board temperature controls and drives.

Davis-Standard Oscillators

Davis-Standard Oscillator

  • Oscillating Die Block
  • Computer designed distribution channels to provide uniform flow over the ranges of resins and outputs required. Channels are sized to maintain adequate shear rates for the specified products to avoid potential stagnation and degradation within the block system.
  • Oscillator components to be fabricated from AISI 4140 steel, stress-relieved and pre-hardened.
  • By simply removing the bolts holding the die to the block, all interlayer seals are exposed for inspection or replacement. No other components need to be touched.
  • Sidefeed sections are designed to allow simple removal while still in place on the die cart. With this ease of access, disassembly, cleaning and reassembly can be accomplished within a fraction of the time required for a conventional design.
  • Oscillator is provided with end of travel limit switches and safety override switches for 360° of oscillation.

IBC (Internal Bubble Cooling) for Blown Film Applications

IBC System

  • IBC FULL-FEATURE Control System
  • The IS-IBC1, with its temperature compensated ultrasonic sensing of bubble. Proprietary conditioning filters allow accurate bubble position signal and compensation for ambient temperature swings to provide long term signal correction.
  • Full Color: 6" Color Touch screen provides an easy to use method for controlling the IBC system. Online Tutors make seldom used functions easy to use. Color trends show operations of the process, layflat deviation, inputs and outputs. Password protected maintenance access allows setup and calibration functions.
  • During startup, IS-IBC1 automatically inflates the bubble to the cage contact position. Changing bubble diameter is easy: just change the sizing cage diameter and the bubble size follows the cage size. Depending on the rate of cage diameter change, IS-IBC1 will stabilize the bubble to the selected contact position in under one minute.
  • System is supplied complete with full PID logic controller, ultra-sonic sensor, sensor mounting hardware, control panel, and pneumatic air flow control valve.
